‘What are you on about?’ I said.

‘She said she was going to make us something “On the house”, so she must be on the roof,’ he pondered.

AMAZING.

Twenty minutes later Wendy wafted in with four plates of baked beans and mash. Unfortunately Agung ended up with one of the mash lumps on his lap after it slid off his plate due to the table being wobbly.

Wendy wedged some paper underneath the offending leg and made some fresh mash for Agung.

After everyone was fed and watered, we ventured out again in pursuit of the elusive Sudmouth Post. I felt like I was dressed for the part in my camouflage gear. I couldn’t say Dev felt the same in the paisley harem pants he’d changed into after his jogging bottoms got covered in wet sand.

We decided to try the park this time, hoping that someone would have left a copy on a bench somewhere. Me and Dev wanted to do a quick scour of the grounds, but it meant leaving Agung and Oli on their own and that was not an option. I spotted a man by the fountain selling novelty helium balloons and got an idea.

‘Hey, Dev, what about I get a couple of those balloons and tie them to Agung and Oli. That way we can keep an eye on them from wherever we are in the park.’

Dev glared at me and uttered, ‘That’s outrageous!’

From his reaction, I thought I’d gone too far this time and replied, ‘Yes, you’re right. It is irresponsible to treat my nearest and dearest like circus animals – even if they do act like them most of the time.’

Then Dev cackled, ‘Don’t be daft, I LOVE IT!’

I should have known that Dev would go for anything outrageous.

‘Brill, then let’s do it,’ I said.
